Ros-Lehtinen, Díaz-Balart y Curbelo Escriben Carta en Protesta Por Reunión Entre Diplomático de la Administración y Alto Funcionario del Régimen Venezolano
(Washington, DC) – La Congresista Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Presidente del Subcomité del Medio Oriente y África del Norte se unió a sus colegas del Sur de la Florida, Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL) y Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) escribiendo una carta al Consejero Thomas Shannon expresando alta preocupación sobre su reciente reunión entre él y Diosdado Cabello en Haití. Destacó Ros-Lehtinen:
“La reunión entre el Consejero Thomas Shannon y Diosdado Cabello envía un mensaje incorrecto a la oposición democrática de Venezuela. Cabello ha tolerado los abusos a los derechos humanos y ha incitado violencia como jefe de la legislatura de Venezuela. Reunirse con funcionarios del régimen bajo sospecha de cometer semejantes atrocidades es contra productivo al avance de los principios democráticos. Los Estados Unidos debe proveer una voz a los activistas y a los grupos que luchan por restaurar los derechos humanos y las libertades en Venezuela, no posar para fotos con sus opresores”

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa was joined by her South Florida colleagues Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL) and Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) penning a letter to Counselor Thomas Shannon expressing deep concern over the recent meeting between him and Diosdado Cabello in Haiti. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
“The meeting between Shannon and Cabello sends the wrong message to the democratic opposition of Venezuela. Cabello has condoned the abuses of human rights and has incited violence against the opposition as head of Venezuela’s legislature. Meeting with regime officials who are suspected of such atrocities is counterproductive to advancing democratic principles. The United States must provide a voice to those activists and groups fighting to restore human rights and liberties in Venezuela, not pose for photo ops with their oppressors.”
