Mérida: Amenazan con demandar a periodista y atentar contra su integridad física
El 13 y el 15 de mayo del 2013, Alexis Ramírez gobernador del estado Mérida informó, en una rueda de prensa, que demandaría al periodista y locutor Héctor Horacio Contreras, quien además es director de Studio 102.7 FM.

El 13 y el 15 de mayo del 2013, Alexis Ramírez gobernador del estado Mérida informó, en una rueda de prensa, que demandaría al periodista y locutor Héctor Horacio Contreras, quien además es director de Studio 102.7 FM. Los señalamientos de la autoridad regional se realizar por presunta instigación a la violencia durante los sucesos del 15 y 16 de abril de 2013, en protestas que se generaron luego de las elecciones presidenciales. El periodista denunció que, también, ha recibido amenazas e intimidaciones, por personas anónimas.
El 15 de abril grupos de individuos armados arremetieron contra personas que protestaban frente a la sede del Consejo Nacional Electoral CNE. A continuación buscaron refugio en las instalaciones del Centro Médico Asistencial dela Universidadde Los Andes (CAMIULA), el cual fue atacado con armas de fuego y objetos contundentes, así como el personal médico, pacientes y personas que se que se encontraban en el centro asistencial. Estos hechos fueron de conocimiento público con trascendencia nacional.
Contreras, en una transmisión en vivo, hizo un llamado al gobernador del estado recordándole su función de garantizar la seguridad ciudadana. A partir de estos llamados, el gobernador Alexis Ramírez emprenderá acciones judiciales contra el periodista, según la información que ofreció en una alocución pública.
Además, Horacio Contreras ha recibido dos amenazas de muerte, vía telefónica contra su vida y la de sus familiares y destrucción de la propiedad privada como forma de amedrentamiento. Se pudo conocer que estas denuncias contra Contreras fueron presentadas al Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científica, Penales y Criminalísticas (CICPC), cuerpo de inteligencia policial. Hasta la fecha de publicación de esta información, las acciones requeridas para la investigación, protección y defensa de este caso están congeladas.
El locutor informó a IPYS Venezuela, que estas amenazas que recibió a su celular están grabadas, así como las transmisiones en vivo en las que pide al gobernador del estado Alexis Ramírez seguridad y le recuerda cuales son sus responsabilidades.
IPYS Venezuela seguirá con especial atención este caso, debido a que se considera un atentado contra lo establecido enla ConstituciónNacionalsobre la libertad de expresión así como una amenaza al ejercicio del periodismo, a la libertad de prensa y al derecho de informar y estar informados del que gozan los ciudadanos.
En la misma semana, por los mismos señalamientos el gobernador de Mérida amenazó con demandar a Leonardo León, locutor de ULA FM 107.7, emisora de la Universidad de Los Andes; y corresponsal del El Nacional. También, el gobernador anunció la constitución del Estado Mayor Comunicación. Por la información que ofreció el ejecutivo, esta instancia pretende regular contenidos e informaciones que se transmiten en los diversos medios de comunicación social del estado, según la información del ejecutivo.

Mérida: journalist Threatened with a lawsuit and an attempt against his physical integrity
On May 13 and 15,l 2013, Alexis Ramírez, governor of Mérida state informed at a press conference, that he would sue journalist and radio show host Héctor Horacio Contreras, who is also the director of Studio 102.7 FM. The regional authority´s suit shall be based on the alleged instigation to violence during the events of April 15 and 16, 2013, in protests generated after the presidential elections. The journalist denounced that he has also received threats and intimidatory actions by anonymous persons.
On April 15, groups of armed individuals went after persons protesting in front of the offices of the National Elections Council (CNE). They then sought refuge in the medical care facility of the Universidad de Los Andes (CAMIULA), which was later attached by firearms and blunt objects, as well as the medical staff, patients and persons in the care facility. This event was of public knowledge nationwide.
During a live broadcast, Contreras urged the governor of the state to guarantee the safety of the citizens. Based on this, Governor Alexis Ramírez shall start legal actions against the journalist, based on information offered at a public allocution.
Horacio Contreras has also received two death threats by pone against his life and that of his family members and the destruction of his private property as a way to harass him. It was revealed that this lawsuit against Contreras was filed at the Scientific, Penal and Criminalistic Investigations Corps (CICPC), a police intelligence entity. At the time of publication of this information, the actions required for the investigation, protection and defense of this case are in standby.
The radio show host informed IPYS Venezuela that the threats received on his cell phone are taped, as well as the live broadcasts requesting safety from the governor of the state Alexis Ramírez, reminding him of his responsibilities.
IPYS Venezuela shall follow this case with special attention, since it is an attempt against the tenets in the national constitution on freedom of expression as well as a threat against exercising journalistic work, freedom of press and the right to inform and be informed that citizens have a right to.
During the same week, as a result of the same statements, the governor of Mérida threatened to sue Leonardo León, radio show host of ULA FM 107.7 (the radio station of the Universidad de Los Andes) and correspondent of El Nacional. The governor also announced the constitution of a communicational joint staff entity. Based on the information furnished by the executive, the aim of that entity is to regulate content and information aired through that state´s social communication media.
