La Cámara de Representantes Está Unida En Apoyo Al Pueblo de Venezuela, y La Administración Debe Tomar Medidas Inmediatas Para Responsabilizar a Maduro y Sus Funcionarios Por Violaciones de Derechos Humanos, Dice Ros-Lehtinen
“La solidaridad es merecida, y ahora debe ser respaldada con acción para ayudar a salvar las vidas del pueblo venezolano que esta sufriendo.”
(WASHINGTON) – La Congresista Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Presidenta del Subcomité del Medio Oriente y África del Norte, hizo la siguiente declaración sobre la aprobación de H. Res. 488 – expresando el apoyo de los Estados Unidos por el pueblo de Venezuela que anhela libertad, democracia y el cese de las tácticas opresivas del régimen de Maduro. La ley fue aprobada abrumadoramente por la Cámara de Representantes con un voto de 393-1. Dijo Ros-Lehtinen:
“Nicolás Maduro y sus secuaces han reprimido brutalmente a aquellos que exigen libertad, democracia, el estado de derecho y respeto por los derechos humanos en Venezuela por semanas sin ser responsabilizados. Me complace ver que la Cámara abrumadoramente aprobó esta resolución hoy y que estamos unidos en nuestro apoyo por los manifestantes pacíficos. Pero nuestra labor no ha terminado. La solidaridad es merecida, y ahora debe ser respaldada con acción para ayudar a salvar las vidas del pueblo venezolano que esta sufriendo.
“Por eso estoy circulando una carta dirigida al Presidente Obama que insta a la Administración a sancionar a los que violan los derechos humanos en Venezuela. Esta carta pide al Presidente imponer sanciones bajo las autoridades de la Ley de Poderes Económicos Internacionales (IEEPA, por sus siglas en inglés), incluyendo negarles visas para entrar a los Estados Unidos, bloquear sus propiedades y congelar sus bienes en los E.E.U.U., y también prohibirles conducir transacciones financieras en los E.E.U.U. Es hora que la Administración actué, y debe actuar ya.”

House Unified in Support for the People of Venezuela, and Administration Must Take Immediate Measures to Hold Maduro and his Regime Officials Accountable for Human Rights Violations, Says Ros-Lehtinen

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement regarding the passage of her resolution, H.Res. 488, which expresses the United States’ support for the people of Venezuela as they call for freedom and democracy and an end to the Maduro regime’s oppressive tactics. The measure was passed overwhelmingly by the House of Representatives with a vote of 393-1. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
“Nicolas Maduro and his henchman have been brutally repressing those who seek freedom, democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights in Venezuela for weeks now without being held accountable for their actions. I’m pleased to see that the House overwhelmingly passed my resolution tonight, and that we are unified in support of these peaceful protesters. Our work is not yet done. The solidarity is warranted, and now it must be backed up by action to help save the lives of the suffering people of Venezuela.
“I’m circulating among my colleagues a letter addressed to President Obama urging him to take immediate punitive measures against Maduro and Venezuelan officials responsible for these gross violations of human rights being committed against these protesters. This letter asks the President to impose sanctions under authorities granted to him under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), including denying these abusers visas to enter the United States, blocking their property and freezing their assets in the U.S., and prohibiting them from making any financial transactions within our borders. The time is right for the Administration to act, and it must act now.”
