“Hemos venido observando con preocupación y los acontecimientos que se han desarrollado en durante las últimas semanas. Manifestaciones estudiantiles de protesta pacífica contra las políticas del , que son normales en cualquier democrática, han sido objeto de una represión desproporcionada por parte de la y de ataques por parte de grupos armados ilegales que algunos vinculan con políticos en el.
A partir de esos hechos ha venido produciéndose una alarmante escalada de violencia y un rápido deterioro de la situación de los en el país. La violencia ha cobrado ya varias vidas por heridas de bala; detenidos han informado públicamente que han sufrido torturas y tratos inhumanos y degradantes por parte de las autoridades; se ha hostigado a la prensa y se ha obstaculizado que los de que informen sobre los acontecimientos, incluyendo la eliminación del de un de y la amenaza de hacer lo mismo con otro, agresiones físicas a y la de la prensa escrita.
Adicionalmente, la protesta cívica y la oposición democrática han sido criminalizadas. Se amenaza con procesos a numerosos presos; el señor Leopoldo López, líder de un opositor, ha sido precipitadamente de su libertad e inculpado por diversos delitos, con un sesgo notoriamente y otros líderes democráticos son perseguidos penalmente por razones políticas..
Condenamos esos hechos y urgimos al venezolano y a todos los y políticos a establecer un debate constructivo, conforme a los cánones de la reconocidos universalmente y plasmados en la Democrática Interamericana.
Llamamos muy especialmente al que contribuya a crear sin demora las condiciones propicias ese debate, con una agenda compartida y sin exclusiones. ello es indispensable que se ponga cese de inmediato a la persecución contra los y los líderes de oposición, incluida la liberación del señor Leopoldo López y de todos los detenidos o perseguidos por razones políticas. Igualmente, es imperativo que se adelante una investigación y transparente sobre las denuncias de torturas y otras violaciones a los y que se ponga cese al hostigamiento a la prensa , incluido el restablecimiento de la del de abolido por el . Es también indispensable que las manifestaciones de protesta de los de la oposición y de otras se mantengan dentro de los cauces pacíficos que han de regir en una democrática y del respeto debido al mandato de las distintas autoridades del país, en los términos pautados por la venezolana.
Como amigos que somos de la venezolana, confiamos que ese país logre superar la extrema polarización y la intolerancia que han dominado la escena política en los últimos años, males que han venido erosionando la eficacia de las diversas instancias internas el debate democrático así como la confianza en la independencia e imparcialidad de numerosas y relevantes .
