Venezuela Awaraness Foundation in a communiqué voiced concern about the request made by President Hugo Chávez concerning the setup of a State Council to ponder on Venezuela’s pullout of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

In the opinion of the Venezuelan human rights advocate based in Miami, the statement is “very serious,” as it deems it that President Chávez’s administration defrauds the Constitution one more time.

“His government has violated human rights on alarming levels and this potential withdrawal from the Inter-American System, in addition to fueling impunity, could leave unprotected and forsaken the victims who resort to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights asking for justice,” they reasoned.

The decision made by the Venezuelan leader “does not take us unawares,” the NGO director Patricia Andrade commented.
