junio 19, 2015.-La mañana de este viernes, siguiendo los requisitos del Congreso, Venezuela Awareness ha solicitado al Chairman Jeff Duncan y el director Mark Walker del Comité de Asuntos del Hemisferio Occidental, la interpelacion del Consejero de la administracion Obama, Thomas Shannon, para que responda lo concerniente a la reunion con el presidente de la Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello.
Consideramos que esta reunion Shannon-Cabello debe ser transparente y tenemos el derecho de conocer lo que considera la administracion Obama como una reunion “positiva y productiva”cuando el enviado venezolano ha sido uno de los grandes represores y violadores de derechos humanos en Venezuela y a la vez, ha sido presuntamente responsabilizado por narcotrafico en dos Cortes de Estados Unidos.
Iniciamos a la vez una campaña en la comunidad venezolana para que envien peticiones via correo postal o fax al Chairman Jeff Duncan donde mostramos nuestro interes para que dicha interpelacion se logre efectuar.

Honorable Jeff Duncan,
I would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to a recent visit to Haiti by the State Department Counselor, Thomas Shannon, on June 13th 2015, where he met up with the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello. We consider this meeting deeply serious since there is an open case before a Court in New York City on drug trafficking, where said Venezuelan representative is allegedly the lead figure of the drug trafficking network. Additionally, Cabello is one of the main violators of human rights in Venezuela.
Due to the secrecy and confusion produced by the Shannon-Cabello meeting; we respectfully request your aid in conducting a hearing and investigation into Mr. Thomas Shannon’s meeting with Mr. Cabello.
. It is important to realize why the meeting took place, what was discussed, was Mr. Shannon informed about the allegations against Mr. Cabello before they met, and what the outcome was between the two gentlemen. We are requesting transparency in this matter due to the seriousness of this issue.
We are also concerned, that the Obama Administration, described the meeting between Shannon and Cabello “as positive and productive”. We find this statement hard to understand since the violation of human rights in Venezuela continues to escalate. Moreover, there are 96 Venezuelans that have been imprisoned due to political reasons. This number is also impacted by those citizens that are currently under house arrest, the thousand more citizens that are on probation, and the extreme measure of hunger strikes that many Venezuelans are currently using as a means of protest. Rather than moving to eradicate human right abuses, the Venezuelan government continues to use extreme force and violence against all citizens that oppose it.
We have already requested the attention of Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Mario Diaz-Balart and Carlos Curbelo, representatives from Florida. We have also asked that Senators Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson support this request for the hearing of the Counselor of the Department of State, Mr. Thomas Shannon.
Due to the above concerns, we are trusting in your good offices that this hearing becomes a reality. We thank you in advance for your time and attention regarding this matter.

Me gustaría tomar esta oportunidad para traer a su atención la reciente visita a Haití del Consejero al Departamento de Estado, Thomas Shannon, el día 13 de junio de 2015, donde se reunió con el presidente de la Asamblea Nacional Venezolana, Diosdado Cabello, reunión que consideramos grave, considerando las informaciones de la causa abierta en una Corte en New York por narcotráfico donde presuntamente el enviado venezolano es el jefe de dicho Cartel de drogas. Adicionalmente, Cabello es uno de los principales violadores de derechos humanos en Venezuela.
Por el secretismo y confusión generada de la reunión Shannon-Cabello, solicitamos respetuosamente sus buenos oficios y siguiendo las reglas aplicables, para interpelar al enviado por la administración Obama, Thomas Shannon, en el y asi responda los motivos y puntos tratados en el encuentro. Solicitamos transparencia por la gravedad de este encuentro.
Nos preocupa que además la administración Obama califique la reunión Shannon-Cabello de “positiva y productiva”cuando la violación a los derechos humanos en Venezuela se ha radicalizado. Existen 96 presos políticos, decenas en arresto domiciliario y miles en libertad condicional, además de un centenar de venezolanos en huelga de hambre que reclaman su libertad plena. Lejos de existir intención de detener y erradicar los abusos de derechos humanos, el gobierno venezolano arremete con mas fuerza contra sus opositores.
Hemos solicitado a los Representantes del Sur de Florida, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Mario Diaz-Balart y Carlos Curbelo asi como a los Senadores Marco Rubio y Bill Nelson apoyo en esta solicitud de interpelación del enviado por el Departamento de Estado Thomas Shannon.
Así que confiando plenamente en sus buenos oficios para que esta interpelación se lleve a cabo, le agradecemos de antemano por su tiempo y disposición,
